Exchange Server Migration to Take Place Over Holiday Break

ITS will be migrating Exchange users to a new Exchange server during the December holiday break. The migration is expected to take 1-3 days. The Exchange server will be unavailable from Dec. 29 through Dec. 31. Users should not attempt to log into their mailboxes during this time as it could cause issues with the migration process. The migration is expected to be completed by Jen. 1, 2007 at 8:00 AM.

Update on Campus Email Server

Email is currently processing as it should. Last Tuesday, November 7th, several changes were made to the email server following consultation with an outside firm specializing in "sendmail". Since that time, the server and queues appear to be functioning well, with few delays.

Campus Email Status

Our e-mail system seems to have been functioning normally for the past 24 hours. Problems that have come to our attention recently have been the more normal problems with mail quotas and the foibles of internet mail exchange between sites.

Email Update

Beginning about two weeks ago, the campus saw almost a doubling of incoming email. The sharp increase in volume impacted our email server, which had difficulty keeping up with the load, and so began queuing some email for later delivery.

Email Backlog Resolved

Computing Services reports that the processing backlog on the campus’s main email server has been resolved for the time being, and email appears to be processing normally, without delays.

Email Server Experiencing Backlog

Since last Wed., Computing Services reports more than a 50% increase in the average daily incoming and outgoing email messages. Levels of about 3-400,000 messages per day are suddenly nearing a million messages per day. At current levels, when there is a backlog of messages to deliver, the email server will queue messages for later delivery - sometimes as much as three days later.
