"Cruncher", a two-cpu, dual-core Sun Fire V490 Server has recently replaced StatMart as an ITS "high performance computing" platform for research and statistical computing. This machine will provide users with a number of improved capabilities on the older machine.

Daylight Savings Time Changes Influence Some Computer Functions

The rules for daylight savings time are different this year because of a change in federal law. Beginning in 2007, most of the U.S. will begin Daylight Saving Time at 2:00 a.m. on the second Sunday in March and revert to standard time on the first Sunday in November.

BINGNFS1 and BINGSUNS Shutdown on 2/14 for Software Patches

BINGNFS1 and BINGSUNS will be shutdown at 5 am, Wednesday, February 14, to apply software patches for the new changes to Daylight Savings Time. The systems should be back up around 8:30 am.

Optical Scanner Being Replaced

The Computer Center’s current Optical Mark Reader has reached the end of its normal life expectancy and will be retired on Monday October 30, 2006. Replacing it will be a Pearson NCS Opscan 8 running ReMark OMR 2.5 software.
