Oracle HR and Finance Applications Update
Information Technology Services is moving Oracle HR and Finance applications from J-initiator to JRE on Sunday night, June 14, 2009 to maintain a supported configuration for the Oracle E-Business Suite. It is imperative that you read and follow the instructions for downloading and installing JRE on your computer to use Oracle after the update. A link to step-by-step instructions will be posted near the IPROD link on the BU Applications Team Portal page. Please direct any questions or issues to the ITS Help Desk at 7-6420.

Campus Power Outage Scheduled
There is a campus power outage scheduled for Saturday, May 23rd, 7am to 7pm. One of the buildings effected is the Computer Center. As a result of the outage, all our networking equipment and computer systems will be shut down.
We'll begin the shut down on Saturday at 5am. All systems should be back in service by 10pm, earlier, if power is restored ahead of schedule.

Power Shutdown for Campus Data Center Rescheduled
The data center power outage originally scheduled for last Friday has been rescheduled for 4am-8:15am on Wednesday, April 8th. The campus network will be down for all buildings, as will central applications like email, Banner, Blackboard and Oracle. Once the electrical work is done, we’ll begin turning on systems, and all services should be restored by 8:15am. While the network will be down, individual PCs in offices should work fine as stand-alone devices.

Computing Center Shutdown Cancelled
In order to keep web and email communications available to the University’s students, faculty and staff tonight, the power shutdown of the University Computing Center planned originally for 6:30pm – 9pm has been cancelled.

Power Shutdown for Campus Data Center
What: Computing Center electrical shutdown of all networking, email, central applications like Banner, Blackboard, Oracle, and campus web pages (except for a notification message), affecting all campus buildings including ITC and UDC.
When: Two and a Half Hours: on Friday, April 3rd from 6:30 pm – 9 pm.
Why: To make a necessary change to the emergency power generation system for the campus Data Center.

IBM Mainframe to Be Retired This Month
ITS will be retiring the IBM Mainframe this month, January 2009.
The retirement scheduled is:
- Friday, January 9: MVS (CICS and the administrative applications that run in this environment) will be unavailable from 8:00 am – 5:00 pm.
- Thursday, January 15: the mainframe (MVS and VM/CMS) will be removed from service permanently at 5:00 pm.

BINGNFS1 File Server Down for Maintenance Oct. 7
On Tuesday, October 7th, Information Technology Services will be performing maintenance on our Network File Server, bingnfs1. The work will done from 7:00am to 7:30am. During this time, users will not be able to login to bingsuns, access personal web pages, access their H drive, and use some of the licensed software available in ITS public facilities. buwireless Authentication Changes Scheduled for January 2008
The Client Validation system that is currently present in the ResNet (Residence Halls) and public spaces will be extended to the buwireless network in order to replace the aging Bluesocket appliance. The change over will occur on January 7, 2008.

Some Computer PODs Currently Unavailable While Upgrades Are Made
The West Pod (Science III - G13) is currently (as of Dec. 19) unavailable while machines and equipment are upgraded. Other Macintosh equipment is available in the Bartle Information Commons and Science Library Information Commons. Pods in LNG102 (Windows) and LNG103 (Linux) are also unavailable while equipment in LNG103 is upgraded.

Planned Computer Center Power Outage December 26-27
An emergency power generator will be installed in the Computer Center on December 26 and 27. This means that central computer and campus network resources will not be available during this time. Once installed, the generator will guard important central equipment from future power failure events.
