Turnitin

Binghamton University has a site license for Turnitin®, one of the leading online anti-plagiarism programs. Turnitin is a proprietary system that helps identify papers containing unoriginal material and acts as a powerful deterrent to stop student plagiarism before it starts. The availability of Turnitin on campus promotes originality in student work, improves student writing and research skills, encourages collaborative learning, and saves valuable instructor time.

The integration of Turnitin with the Blackboard course management system allows instructors to check papers for originality using Turnitin’s plagiarism prevention system without ever leaving the Blackboard environment. Turnitin provides a comprehensive search covering multiple databases and includes sources from the Internet. Instructors can create assignments within the Blackboard interface that automatically flow into the Turnitin system.

Instructions on how to use Turnitin through Blackboard are available at training.binghamton.edu (keyword Turnitin). For additional information on Turnitin and Blackboard contact the Technology Training Center at x76362 or blackboard@binghamton.edu. Faculty wishing to use Turnitin outside of the Blackboard environment should contact the dean’s office at their school.
