Public Software Request Form
Policies for Software Installation
The University endorses the EDUCOM statement of principles for the Ethical and Legal Use of Software for Members of the Academic community. Computing Services will only install software for which clear documentation of the University's right to use is on file. Documentation for licensed software is the appropriately signed license agreement and proof of payment of license fee.
Documentation for shareware is a printed copy of the portion of the program which declares it shareware along with proof of payment of shareware fee. Documentation of public domain software is a printed copy of that portion of the program which declares it to be public domain.
License agreements must be signed by a person with the authority to make legally binding commitments for the University. Consult with the Purchasing Office if you have questions.
Computing Services will only install licensed software if the original distribution media and a complete set of documentation are provided.
Computing Services, in consultation with the ACET (Academic Computing Educational Technology Committee), reserves the right to choose the location and installation method it deems most appropriate for particular software.
Computing Services will not install software when existing resources are inadequate or when the software functionally duplicates other installed software.
Computing Services will only consider requests for software installation originating from a faculty member or professional staff member. Students (even graduate teaching assistants) should obtain faculty sponsorship for their requests.
