IBM Mainframe to Be Retired This Month

ITS will be retiring the IBM Mainframe this month, January 2009.

The retirement scheduled is:

  1. Friday, January 9: MVS (CICS and the administrative applications that run in this environment) will be unavailable from 8:00 am – 5:00 pm.
  2. Thursday, January 15: the mainframe (MVS and VM/CMS) will be removed from service permanently at 5:00 pm.

Users (past and present) of MVS and VM/CMS are reminded:

  1. Cartridge tapes containing data that academic users have stored in the tape management system have been copied to optical media. Contact the ITS Help Desk to obtain a copy.Please note: ITS will not hold this data indefinitely.
  2. CMS “A disks” will no longer be available after January 15. Contact ITS Help Desk immediately to arrange transfer of data from CMS to another medium.
  3. Cartridge tapes stored in offices will not be able to be read after January 15. Bring such tapes to the ITS Help Desk immediately to have the data on them transferred to optical media.
