Windows Vista Update from ITS

Information Technology Services will provide support for the Windows Vista operating system beginning Wednesday, Aug. 1. ITS will support the Vista Business edition on faculty/staff machines.

Vista Home Edition does not provide the appropriate networking components to link with some Binghamton University business systems. Users who purchase Vista Home will also need to purchase an upgrade license to Vista Business in order to connect to University systems. In addition, there are several known hardware and software compatibility issues with Vista and certain vendor packages. ITS will not be responsible for troubleshooting these incompatibilities. ITS does not recommend upgrading older machines to Vista Business. Users who are still considering upgrading from an older operating system should be sure the computer meets the following minimum requirements: Pentium IV or above; minimum 2GB RAM, 100GB disk drive and 64MB graphics card; compatibility of software. See the following link for more information. For all departments that use ITS services for computer quotes, ITS will quote Vista-compatible machines.
