The United States Computer Emergency Readiness Team has issued a "Security Alert" for Mozilla-based web browsers. To find out more, go to: www.us-cert.gov/cas/techalerts/TA07-151A.html.
In light of this security alert, users should make sure they are using up-to-date web browsers to minimize security vulnerabilities.
The Mozilla Foundation announced that it will support Firefox 1.5 with "security and stability updates" until June of 2007 (this month.) Anyone still using Firefox 1.5 or earlier is "strongly encouraged to upgrade to Firefox 2."
The Mozilla Suite (also referred to as "Mozilla") is no longer being supported and is affected by several known vulnerabilities which have been addressed in Firefox 2 and/or SeaMonkey, the successor to The Mozilla Suite. People who use Mozilla Suite are strongly encouraged to upgrade to Firefox 2 or SeaMonkey.
Netscape Browser 8.1.3, the most recent version of the Netscape browser for MS-Windows, is based on Firefox 1, and includes security patches released through Firefox 1.5.0.8. There are known vulnerabilities in Netscape Browser 8 which have not been addressed. Netscape 8 users are encouraged to switch to Firefox 2.
Netscape 7.2, the most recent version of the Netscape browser for Mac OS, was released 3 years ago. Netscape 7 is no longer current. People who use Netscape for Mac OS are strongly encouraged to switch to either Firefox 2 or SeaMonkey.
Netscape has announced that a new version of its web browser, is "on its way." Reportedly, "Netscape Navigator 9" will be based on Firefox 2, and versions will be released for MS-Windows, Linux and Mac OS.
