StatMart Upgrades Made

"Cruncher", a two-cpu, dual-core Sun Fire V490 Server has recently replaced StatMart as an ITS "high performance computing" platform for research and statistical computing. This machine will provide users with a number of improved capabilities on the older machine.

For instance, two new applications/languages for numerical computation (in addition to SAS) have been added (R, an open source language similar to S-plus, and Matlab). The new machine will also continue to support researchers working with large financial time series data by providing large disk storage quotas (10-20 Gb) as well as shared group areas even larger. Those who have questions or are interested in a Cruncher account should email Ralph Hansen (rhansen@binghamton.edu). Support documentation for Cruncher can be found on the ITS Open Wiki (wiki.binghamton.edu, search for 'cruncher').
